Nationals 2017 Announcement
Get ready y’all. This is going to be a HUGE event. Nationals 2017 will have roughly 460 players representing 24 schools from 10 different states. With so many dodgeball players from all over flocking to Lexington on April 8 & 9, its bound to be a good time!
Nationals 2017 will feature 59 ranked games, in addition to the NCDA Alumni Match, NCDA Ladies’ Match, and the NCDA All Star Game presented by SAVAGE apparel.
This is INSANE and I couldn’t be happier! This will be the largest Nationals the NCDA has ever hosted. This year’s attendance will break last year’s (which set the current record) 18 team tournament by 33%.
Entry fees are due March 15 and can be paid via check or through PayPal.

Nationals 2017 Registration Forms
–Important Nationals News–
Okay friends, here is the stuff you’ve been waiting for. As you know, the official apparel sponsor of Nationals 2017 is SAVAGE Apparel. We need to have our shirt order turned into them no later than March 1st, which means we also need your team’s information.
There are four tasks to complete before March 1st concerning Nationals:
- Captains: Register your team for Nationals 2017 in Lexington, KY at University of Kentucky.
- Captains: Submit your team’s all stars for the 7th Annual NCDA All Star Game presented by SAVAGE. Each attending team is eligible to submit two all stars to compete in this year’s ASG. Each all star will receive a complimentary jersey from SAVAGE. This year’s format will be a draft. All Star coaches for this year’s event are Kevin Bailey and Jacob Leski.
- (Teams not competing at Nationals, but sending representatives, can still participate in the All Star Game. Submit your All Stars!
- (Teams not attending Nationals can also submit All Stars and will have the option to purchase a jersey at a cost TBD).
- Lady Dodgeballers, register for the 6th Annual NCDA Ladies’ Match. There is no limit to the amount of participants each team can have in the match. Each team is entitled to two ladies match shirts each for free, if they have ladies interested in playing (teams with no ladies cannot submit requests for shirts; they cost money). Additional Ladies’ Match shirts can be purchased for $10/shirt, but they MUST register in order to receive a shirt. We will NOT be purchasing any extras.
- Alumni, if you would like to officiate at any point during the weekend, register here. There are benefits for officials including: receiving a free event shirt once you’ve officiated 3 full games, receiving a hotel stipend for officiating 60% of the total rounds, and getting paid per game (see registration form for additional details).
ALL OF THESE FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN MARCH 1ST IN ORDER TO RECEIVE SHIRTS. If your team is not registered by March 1st, you will NOT receive event, ladies’ match, or all star shirts/jerseys.
Nationals fees are also due no later than March 15, 2017. You should have received an invoice last week in your email. If you did NOT, please let us know ASAP. Registration fees are $300 this year and will go toward paying for: Officials, tshirts, balls, court tape, and camera equipment.
Let your favorite Board member know what questions you have, because I know you have some.
Policy Proposal – Senior Eligibility for Nationals
Seniors graduating in the winter semester (or first or second quarter for schools on quarters) are eligible to play at nationals.
Rationale: NCAA does it, nice for guys to get one more nationals, best competition at nationals

If Nationals Bracket-Play was Today
Happy New Year to all of you in the NCDA.
As we start out this new year, I thought it would be cool to take a look at what NCDA Nationals 2017 would look like if it happened right now.
Listed below is the bracket for Nationals if it were to take place today. In this scenario I am assuming that every team that has played an NCDA game this season will make the trip to University of Kentucky for the season’s final tournament. Note that the seeding is based off the NCDA’s current standings.
Now, lets take a look at what the results may look like if this were the case…
Goals for 2017 Nationals
To cap off this already exciting 2016- 2017 season, Nationals will be held at the University of Kentucky. The last time UK hosted Nationals, Candy Crush was popular and Liam Hemsworth broke up with Miley Cyrus. Those were much simpler times. The 2012-2013 season also saw the start of the Grand Valley streak. Will that streak end this season? I have no idea. In my opinion, this year is the most even the league has been since I have been on the court. In my bold predication and entirely unresearched opinion, the 2016- 2017 National tournament will have more upsets than any previous year. You heard it here first.
Putting aside the crystal ball, I have been told that the 2013 Nationals can be used as a template for which other Nationals have been run. Hopefully, we can improve on this template. This year, we have access to UK’s main gym, the Johnson Center, as well as its auxiliary gym, the Seaton Center. We will have access to four courts in the Johnson Center and three in the Seaton Center. All courts have brick walls on both ends and nets that run the length of the court. For the fans, one of the courts in Seaton will have bleachers and the Johnson Center has a track that circles all four courts.
Outside of the gym, Lexington has great bars and restaurants that will be happy to feed +20 smelly degenerates like you. For a nationally ranked hangover cure, try Tolly Ho. If you are looking for quantity, try Gumbo Ya Ya (Delicious Cajun food) and Hibachi Express (Chinese food). And if you are looking for regular drive-thru food, there is a Taco Bell on campus and McDonalds and Chipotle just off-campus. As for bars, I suggest Two Keys and The Stagger Inn (try a John Wall shot).
The University of Kentucky is very excited to host Nationals.

2016 Wes Hopkins Fastest Arm Contest
CHICAGO – Office of the Director of Officiating (and Records):
The NCDA conducted another survey of the abilities of the League’s student-athletes during Nationals 2016 in Bowling Green, Ohio. This year’s Fastest Arm was named in honor of the current record holder, Wes Hopkins of Kentucky, and presented by the DePaul Dodgeball Society for supplying the radar gun. 2016 NCDA Treasury Report
Greetings All,
As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we would like to invite all of our organizational members to look over the fiscal year 2016 finance to see where the money that you all have donated or paid to us is going.
The NCDA started the year off with a cash balance of $1,420.41 in the bank.
Over the course of the 2015/2016 dodgeball season, our total income was $8,404.67.
- $2,275 from annual membership dues.
- $5,400 from Nationals 2016 registration fees.
- $364 from additional pizza revenue for Nationals 2016.
- $365.67 form various other sources.
Over the course of the 2015/2016 dodgeball season, our total expenses were $6,271.66.
- Total Nationals 2016 Expense was $6,141.73
- $1,697.10 for referees.
- $3,344.80 for apparel.
- $792.00 for pizza.
- $307.83 other costs related to Nationals 2016.
- $129.93 in General & Administrative Expenses (postage, web hosting costs, bank fees, etc.)
As of year end, June 30, 2016, the NCDA has a total of $3,553.42 in cash assets, with no significant upcoming expenses as of August 10, 2016.
As of the date of this posting, August 10, 2016, the NCDA has a total of $$3,473.92 in cash assets. The next NCDA Treasury Report will be dated September 30, 2016.

Nationals 2017 Host Vote Results
LOS ANGELES – Office of the Director of Officiating (and Records): The University of Kentucky Dodgeball Club will play host for Nationals 2017 in Lexington, Kentucky. They have two potential weekends available, of April 1st or April 8th.
This was a preferential election. Each Member Team submitted a ballot ranking the candidates by preference. The votes were transferred in a STV format until the most preferred candidate won a majority. 12 votes dictated a quorum for our current total of 23 teams. Tyrell Smith, Director of Nationals 2016, was auditor of the ballots as per the election oversight duties of the position.
An election note, there was a tiebreaker between VCU and JMU in the first round since they had the same total of first preferences in the election. The tiebreaker went to the Candidate with more second preferences: VCU with 11 over JMU with 3.

Nationals 2017 Hosting Bids
Following the NCDA’s voting policy, the vote will be preferential. Teams will submit their ballot by ranking each school in order of their preference and email this ballot to the League. The most preferred school will host Nationals 2017. For Nationals 2017, there are four schools placing a bid to host: JMU, VCU, and UK, BW. See after the jump for each team’s bid information. Please make any questions you have known.
Voting will run from May 1st to May 6th, or will end early if each Member Team casts a ballot by email to ncdadodgeball@gmail.com

Nationals is two things: the National Tournament (Section 4.3.4.6) and the extra-strength Non-Bracket Matches (Section 4.3.4.5). I propose a less stringent definition of Saturday’s required games, a minimum of two.
P.4. Changing Sunday’s Bracket Format:
P.4.1 [Link] AH: I would like to propose that championship Sunday be broken into two different tourneys. One tourney for the higher seeded teams and one for the lower seeded teams. I do believe this would bring out the best competition in all teams on Sunday instead of waiting till the second or third round before competition heats up.
P.4.2 [Link] JS: Top 8 teams compete for the cup at nationals, the other teams would play round robin games on Sunday.

It is that time of year again! The 2015-16 National Collegiate Dodgeball Association’s season came to a close just a few short weeks ago.
All of the votes are finally in, so we can now present to you the 2016 All-American Team. Congratulations to these 15 gentlemen for their incredible individual performances this year. Becoming an All-American is no small accomplishment.
Listed below are the 15 All-Americans determined by a league wide vote. This list is in preferential order with #1 being the 2016 MVP. Below each name is a small description of the player and his successes this year. These brief descriptions were written by a few different members of the NCDA Content Team.

Shout out for Dodgeball Officials this Season
Good People. As Director of Officiating, I would like to take a moment to note several stellar Officials we had over the Nationals event weekend and those I’ve observed over the 2016 Season. I was pretty much useless in mobility but a lot of people came together to make sure Matches were officiated with at least four person crews. I had incredible help with Felix Perrone running to queue teams up for Matches and Officiating. He did 11 miles on Saturday.Alumni Jason Hallman pretty much officiated every round, including being part of the Championship crew this year. Matt Zinn did the same, but needing to step out once GV went deeper into the bracket. Jude DuPart and Ryan Carlton deserve similar recognition, but we’re going to have to institute some mandatory break policy for you people next time!
I was incredibly happy to see people stick around to help staff the last three matches, especially those with long travel times. Becky Seemann, Nick Johnson, Evan Bemus, Sam Murphy, Klaire Randall, Mike McNicholas, Colin O’Brien to name a few good people.

2016 Champions: GVSU
BOWLING GREEN – BGSU Perry Fieldhouse, Court B “Savage Apparel”: GVSU def CMU 1-0 in the 2016 Championship Match in College Dodgeball. This is their eighth National title, capping a series of four successive titles from 2013 to 2016. This matches the earlier quaterpeat from 2007 to 2010.
GVSU was first in the Standings going into the Nationals event, and was seeded #1 in the Tournament Bracket. They finish the 2016 Season with 28 wins and 4 losses, 2 of which happened in Overtime. They also finish the season with the current highest Gonzalez rating of all time, 62.662.
