On January 31st, Michigan State University (MSU) hosted this years Women’s Spartan Smackdown women’s tournament! This was the last big women’s event before nationals, which we now know will be hosted by University of Akron. It was amazing to see all those who showed up especially the teams who could form secondary teams! The day was long and each team played hard, so let’s take a look at how they did and read about what some players thought about the day!

Women’s Spartan Smackdown Preview

On Saturday, January 31st, Michigan State University (MSU) will be hosting the Spartan Smackdown Women’s tournament! This tournament will see a few new faces like the University of Wisconsin-Platteville team, the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, and the Northern Kentucky University team. It will also be showcasing the reigning women’s dodgeball champions, University of Ohio-Akron as well as big-shots and host, Michigan State University. This tournament will help solidify the positions of the women’s teams while also helping the rookies get a feel for the current league atmosphere leading up to nationals. Let’s hope our rookie teams can turn some heads while our veteran teams provide an invaluable example of what a team can become.
South Midseason Recap
We’re halfway into the 2026 NCDA season, and the South region has gone from one of the smallest, most sparse regions in the association to the fastest-growing. #11 Northern Kentucky continues their steady improvement and #14 North Georgia is playing the best dodgeball they ever have. Lower down in the deep south, #22 Alabama begins their debut season strong with 12 points scored and #25 Georgia Southern looks to complement their shortened roster to maximize their potential.
Not only are the teams in the South improving rapidly, but many prospective teams in the South look to enter the league this spring or next fall. As such, this year’s South Cup will be the most interesting yet. Here’s a recap of each team’s fall semester.

Four regions will be represented this weekend as some of the nation’s best converge in Akron, Ohio, for the 10th edition of the Pink Out tournament, hosted by the University of Akron. An array of teams, some looking to make statements, and some trying to break into the win column, will bring their best and look to continue the exciting start to the 2025-26 campaign.

On Saturday, September 27th, the University of Cincinnati will be hosting the Clifton Heights Classic IV. The six teams that will be in attendance will be Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Miami University (Miami), Northern Kentucky University (NKU), Ohio University (Ohio), THE Ohio State University (OSU), and the hosts, the University of Cincinnati (UC). With over half of the Ohio teams in attendance plus the Southern Dodgeball Cup Champs, we should be in for a fantastic weekend of matchups to see where these teams stand in the early stages of the 2025/2026 season.
