Weekend Recap

Last weekend featured three separate National Collegiate Dodgeball Association events.  Each one had some telling results.  Miami (Ohio) had a head turning performance when they went undefeated at their home tournament, including a win over Ohio.  Central Michigan went undefeated at the home tournament as well, then followed it up the next day with another undefeated day at MSU.

Below, a number of individuals react to what went down last weekend:

Fiscal Year 2018 Q1 Financial Update

Chicago, IL – Office of the Treasurer

The purpose of this post is to provide you an update on the financials of the NCDA, as well as announce some treasury department news.

To begin, starting for FY18, the NCDA began using a new accounting software provider, WaveApps, to keep track of our finances, invoices, bills, etc. all in one place. This allows us to automatically generate & send out invoices, keep track of who has paid and who hasn’t, and generate financial statements. We currently are looking into additional services WaveApps provides, including making payments directly to the NCDA online, avoiding having to mail checks or pay through PayPal and have to pay additional fees to third party providers.  Additionally, for FY18, the NCDA switched to the accrual basis of accounting from the cash basis, so going forward our financials will include items including net assets, payables, and receivables.

In other news, all 2017-2018 season invoices have been sent out, to the emails provided to us during team registration. You should have received these by now. Please let the e-board know immediately if your team did not receive this invoice. These annual membership dues are to be received by the NCDA by 11:59 pm PST on December 31, 2017. If they are 1-31 days late, there will be a $25 late fee assessed. Late payments without the late fee will not be accepted. No payments will be accepted after January 31, 2017, and you will not be allowed to participate in NCDA events including Nationals for the 2017-18 season. No exceptions without first clearing it with the full executive board prior to December 31. If you have any questions, please reach out to the E-board. Midland Mayhem Invitational

If you have not guessed it, another weekend is upon us and that means tournament time. This time the new kids on the block, Midland University will be hosting their first ever home tournament, The Midland Mayhem Invitational at the Wikert Event Center/ Hopkins Arena, (900 North Clarkson St. Fremont, Nebraska 68025) on Saturday, November 11, 2017.  The teams in attendance will be: the University of Nebraska- Lincoln (UNL), University of Wisconsin- Platteville (UWP), and Midland University (MU).  It’s a battle in the Midway Conference and the question is, who will reign supreme?  Will it be the Warriors who are just getting the hang of things, the Cornhuskers who are coming off a win against Midland or the Pioneers who took a beat down at the King of the Mountain ( According to Anthony Goetz, there is a plaque for the winners, Midland really goes all out).  Let’s take a look at the schedule and a preview of the matches.      Continue reading “Midland Mayhem Invitational”

Standings as of 2017-11-07

We are well developed into the season, with 22 ranked matches coming out of this weekend and bringing us to a staggering 1359 ranked matches with 109 ranked matches in the 2018 Season so far. There are few organizations out there that can claim these kinds of records, and if any of you have leads on any please forward them over. Record keeping really sets us apart. Dodgeball play is worth keeping track of, and accuracy is important.

Technical Upset Spotlight

We had some close games this weekend across our three events, and we registered three technical upsets in our 22 ranked matches. The Gonzalez system marks 263 technical upsets in 1359 ranked matches (80.65% success rate). One team claimed all three of our technical upsets: Miami on their home court. NCDA Regional Hierarchy – November 2017

The question often arises: “Which Region is the best in College Dodgeball?”.  While Michigan has historically had the best region in the country by a large margin, the argument for 2nd and 3rd place was always a big debate.

While reviewing the most recent Power Rankings, I noticed that the race for strongest region is much closer than some may anticipate.  In fact, depending on what one determines to be the most important criteria, there could be a case made for several different regions as the best in the NCDA.

Over the past decade, many have accepted the narrative that the Michigan Region is the best in College Dodgeball and that it will never change.  After taking a closer look at our current power rankings, the distinction of ‘strongest region’ is more up in the air than people may think.

I used two different methods to analyze the NCDA’s ‘Regional Hierarchy’, both of which were based off November’s Power Rankings.  For reference, here is the top 20 for November: Continue reading “NCDA Regional Hierarchy – November 2017”

Power Rankings – November 2017

As we progress further and further into the fall semester, the college dodgeball season continues to heat up!  Already this year we have seen some fantastic games, and a few very surprising outcomes.  We even had our first event on the west coast when Gonzaga and Oregon State met for a double header.

Since it is the start of a new month, it is time to reveal the new power rankings.  This month, the list was compiled by fellow NCDA Executive Board member Jacob Leski and myself.  We both produced a top 20 list and combined them to make the final composite power rankings that you see below (any tie between two schools would go in favor of the team with the higher win percentage).  Leski and I both leave brief comments below for each team.

Let us know what you think about the current power rankings, and what you expect will change before December rolls around.

*These Power Rankings have no impact on the league’s official standings.

1) Central Michigan

Central Michigan is without a doubt worthy of the #1 ranking based on how they have done so far this year.  Their home tournament on Saturday will be a HUGE test for them.  Continue reading “Power Rankings – November 2017”

If you’d like to know more about the Gonzalez System, please refer to our Spec Doc detailing the system. And as always, I’d be more than happy to answer any questions.  Continue reading “Standings as of 2017-10-31”
