Zanderthon Throw-Down Recap 3.0
On Saturday February 24, one of the great tournaments of the semester occurred between two teams, University of Wisconsin- Platteville and University Nebraska- Lincoln. It was another matchup between the Cornhuskers and the Pioneers and UWP got the best of UNL. Here is how the games went overall this weekend.

This Saturday, North Georgia will play host to Georgia Southern and Central Florida in a South Region clash that will have a major impact on the region moving forward. Below is the schedule for the event (all times listed are Eastern Standard Time)
10:00 a.m. – GSU vs. UCF
11:15 a.m. – UCF vs. UNG
12:30 p.m. – Lunch Break
1:30 p.m. – UNG vs. GSU
2:45 p.m. – GSU vs. UCF
4:00 p.m. – UCF vs. UNG
The BEAST has always been an exciting tournament which brings out top level competition and memorable moments for many teams. While this year’s tournament didn’t have the upsets and big surprises last year’s had, it certainly had some spectacular plays and thrilling finishes.
Ultimately, the biggest takeaway is that we are starting to get a clearer picture about where each team on the East Coast stands relative to each other. It was also a good opportunity to see four potential MVP candidates in action and get a better idea of how the MVP race will play out, along with looking at some other potential All-American players.
Standings are aimed to be released by the end of every Tuesday.

In the 2018 Season, we have 48 technical upsets in 198 ranked matches (75.76% success rate) across 30 events.
The Gonzalez System is a computer ranking model similar to Elo and is a rating exchange system based on research performed by World Rugby. It has been adapted by the NCDA to the demands of College Dodgeball, but can be tuned and customized endlessly to incorporate accurate data. The Beast 428 at JMU is looking to be another spectacular spectacle for spectators to spectate! With the #1, #4, #7, #11, #28, & #33 ranked teams (out of 37) in attendance. It’s safe to say every game will certainly be a nail biter. However, if you don’t have any nails to bite, don’t worry, JMU always packs the house for their home tournaments so you should find plenty there. With that being said, let’s examine some of the match-ups from an exciting East Coast Cup (minus PSU & UMD, plus GV).
On Saturday February 24th, the 2018 Ohio Dodgeball Cup will be hosted at none other than THE Ohio State University. We will be seeing eight of the teams from the Ohio region battling out for the best prize that Ohio has to offer. THE Ohio Dodgeball Cup.

On Saturday February 24, 2018, two of the top teams in the Midway Conference will go head to head in a double header. This will be the third time that University Wisconsin-Platteville (UWP) and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) will have played each other and Platteville has got the better of the Cornhuskers each time. The games will be played at the Williams Fieldhouse (350 Jay St Platteville, Wisconsin 53818). We will also be featuring an alumni game against the current UWP varsity crew. District 5 has partnered with the NCDA to help sponsor Nationals 2018 in Richmond, VA. The local restaurant has been a popular spot in the Richmond area for years and will be an excellent place for teams to gather Friday and Saturday night. They will also be sponsoring a court and be the official sponsors for the annual Fastest Arm Competition. All current and former NCDA members will be welcome to attend anytime throughout the weekend. The Treasurer of the NCDA, Mike McNicholas, was able attend a dodgeball night while in Lincoln, NE while there on business. We had one small but important event this weekend, Mardi Gras Madness hosted by Northwestern State. NSU (sometimes NSULA) hosted our two Georgian teams, GSU and UNG, where five ranked matches were played, including one technical upset.
In the 2018 Season, we have 44 technical upsets in 174 ranked matches (74.71% success rate) across 27 events.

This past Saturday, the University of North Georgia and Georgia Southern University took long voyages to Northwestern State University of Louisiana for NSULA’s Mardi Gras Madness Tournament. In result, the league found some answers about the unknown South Region of the NCDA. Five matches were played between the three squads validating each school to become eligible to compete at Nationals come April. The day began with in-state rivals UNG and GSU going head-to-head, and concluded with NSULA playing two matches against the traveling teams each.
