Review for Kent State’s Matthew Kelsey Fundraiser Tournament

I hope that you all are recovered from a hopefully fun Saint Patrick’s day! While this past weekend did not hold any sanctioned NCDA bouts, I was privileged enough to be able to participate in the Matthew Kelsey Fundraiser 6v6 Tournament held by Kent State on Saturday March 18th. Matt “Kelso” Kelsey was one of Kent State’s original club members and has been recently ┬ádiagnosed with Leukemia and the proceeds of the tournament went to help Matt with any costs he might have. The tournament was a great success and raised 776 dollars for Matthew with the 10 teams that showed up and the other donations that were made in his honor.

I guess dodgeball skillz stay with you even after you graduate!

The tournament was for the most part, very ┬ácompetitive with only being played until three points or until time ran out, with a few games having to go into overtime. In the end, it was proven that dodgeball is indeed like riding a bike, and that the “Old Guyz” of KSU still got it. The Champions were comprised of Kyle Fitzpatrick, Camden Fulmer,Nick Fantozzi, Carl Veith, Matt Veith, and Chris Becker.

Kent State old and new!

The other nine teams were made up of four alumni teams, one alum/ current Kent mix, one current Kent team, one Akron and Kent mix, one OU team, and a Marietta team. It was a great chance for some of us to play 6v6 and to get a feel for what dodgeball is like outside of the league. Shout out to the Ohio teams and to everyone from out of state that came and helped make the tournament as successful as it was, it was a great turnout for a great guy. Good Luck Matt!

Some Ohio Captains being civil for now.
