Ethan Lehmkuhl’s Grand Valley Gauntlet X Predictions

For this preview, it’s just going to be me sharing my predictions for the Grand Valley Gauntlet, so if you don’t care what I have to say, this is your queue to leave. With that being said, this should be a great tournament all around, as it features 3 of the top 5 teams in the current standings (GVSU, MSU, UC).

GVSU

With their backs against the wall at their home tournament, the Lakers have a lot to play for this weekend. I’m expecting them to come out sharp and motivated this weekend after finishing day 2 of WAR 1-2. It’s bounce-back season in Allendale. Give me the Lakers 4-0 over MSU, UC, CMU, and BGSU.

UC

UC will have a full roster this weekend, and after much back and forth, coach Wes Peters will also be in attendance. Wes has shown to make a significant impact on the Bearcats’ performance as of late and is making a solid case for Coach of the Year. Despite Cincinnati being hot off an ODC championship, I have them at 2-1 this tournament, with an ever-elusive win over MSU, and a sleepwalk vs BGSU.

MSU

If you’ve made it this far, then you probably realize that I have MSU at 1-2 on the day, with the lone win coming against CMU. These are just my predictions after all, and I truly believe anything could happen. I don’t think anyone would be surprised if MSU pulls off a 3-0 day. With that being said, I can already hear the “MSU vs everybody” comments flooding in.

BGSU

BGSU has a tough draw of GVSU and UC at the front and back ends of their schedule respectively. After a 7th place finish at ODC, I don’t see them getting the job done. Nothing shocking here, BGSU finishes 1-2 with a win over CMU.

CMU

CMU also has a tough draw, and being in the middle of a rebuild does not help their chances. It is promising though, to see them make it to another tournament. This should be good experience for them heading into nationals, where they will have a better shot of picking up a W.
