BOTM: 2014 January

Andy Lieblich [MSU-20]

Andy is a student at Michigan State, a longtime member of MSU Dodgeball, and for the past few months he’s been a regular staff member of the NCDA. Starting his work with a short Python script for one of his class projects, Andy has since expanded his talents. He’s part of the development team working on the Ratings Percentage Index application for the League. One of the formulas we use in the RPI, similar to the NCAA Basketball formula, carries his namesake.

Zigmas: Andy! Tell me a little about your time as part of MSU Dodgeball.

Andy: It’s a lot of fun playing with everyone, and a great stress reliever. We’ve had a rough start this season, but we’re still having a good time with it all.

Zigmas: And your work with the NCDA’s efforts at the RPI?

Andy: I’m glad I’ve had the chance to work on the RPI, I haven’t had very much experience working on a team for a project like this so its been nice to work with you, and now the other guys. Also, its been an interesting topic in some interviews I’ve had, so I’m lucky to have it on my resume.

Zigmas: I’m sure plenty of people have had the awkward dodgeball conversation in interviews, but I guarantee you most employers love hearing about something new. But you do agree that working with the coding team is a valuable part to your portfolio? Any career goals on the horizon?

Andy: Yeah, it definitely looks great. Employers really like that I have been contributing to something outside of school and work. I know I’ve heard you say this before, but If anyone needs a resume booster, I would encourage them to get a hold of you to try to find something to work on. I still have a year left until i graduate, but after I’m hoping to work as a Software Developer somewhere.

Zigmas: Thanks Andy, it’s a pleasure to have you on the team. Looking forward to working together in the future.
