A Closer Look at the Region- (Midway Conference)
Next year should be a great for our region of the league. Just two years ago there were only three teams: DePaul, Platteville, and Nebraska. Now we have eight teams in our area (UW- Eau Claire, UW-Whitewater, UW-Platteville, DePaul, Northern Illinois, North Park, Nebraska, and Minnesota) and it won’t take long for these teams to be competitive. I interviewed each team and here is what they had to say. Continue reading “A Closer Look at the Region”
2017 Club Executive of the Year: Erik Zander (UWP)
The National Collegiate Dodgeball Association’s 2017 Executive of the Year is awarded to Erik Zander from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Since its inception in 2015, this award is meant to showcase the outstanding officership of an individual over the course of the season. As administrators, we interact with Member Team representatives and follow their work with a different kind of attention. These individuals have made our lives easier, in addition to making exceptional improvements with their respective teams.
2015 – William Deutsch [PSU]
2016 – Caleb Arnold [Ohio]
2017 – Erik Zander [UWP]
This honor is bestowed upon Erik after a vote of the entire NCDA Executive Board, and we presented it at the 2017 Captains’ Meeting. Erik was nominated last year for the 2016 Exec of the Year Award which went to Caleb Arnold [Ohio]. There were a lot of great choices this year, and additional nominations for 2017 went to: Hunter Ford (VCU), Kyle Shaw (Miami), Zachary Parise (UK), Nick Johnson (WKU), Kyle Dattelbaum (UNG), Adam Pfeifer (Akron), Logan Rohloff (GVSU).
Here’s a short interview with Erik.

Well, it is the only tournament this weekend and once again it is between two heavy weights DePaul and Platteville. Zanderthon Throw-Down 2
Zanderthon Throw-Down 2
Well, it is the most anticipated tournament of this semester. Two great teams, the DePaul Dodgeball Society and Platteville Dodgeball Club will duke it out once again for the sixth time this year on Saturday, February 25, 2017. There will also be some UWP alumni dodgeball players joining the fun that day. I also want to give these alumni a shout out for being a part of and starting the club ten years ago. Your determination to play dodgeball has led to me and others on the team making many new friends from around the country. It should be interesting to see how these games turn out. The games this year have been all over the place from an overtime in Nebraska to a blowout game at DePaul. The last few matches have been more competitive and DePaul is showing that they can hang in there and cause teams problems. With that said let’s take a look at the match ups for the day.
Alumni Appreciation- UWP
Alumni Appreciation- Founder of UWP Dodgeball
As you may know, January is alumni appreciation month and I thought it
would be fitting to write about how Platteville’s club got started. Our club started over ten years ago and I’m so happy that it did. I have met a lot of amazing people and made a lot of great friends because of it. To help tell how the club got started we talked to the founder of the club: Scott Skelly. UWP- Matt Bautch
An End of an Era for one of the Greats at UWP
Matt Bautch- #8
This semester, Matt Bautch, a great player and one of my best friends, graduated. He did a lot for our team, which deserves recognition. For the last 4 and a half years he has been one of Platteville’s best players, and most of the teams who have played against him can agree. Matt was always a very quiet individual and didn’t talk much. In our first few weeks of practice as freshmen everyone called him blue because no one knew his name (He always wore the color blue to practice, hence the nickname Blue). I can remember walking back to the dorms at midnight after practice while I talked and he just listened. He wasn’t much for words, but then again, he didn’t have to be, he let his play on the court do his talking. Matt had one of the strongest arms in the league and could catch about anything thrown his way. It was always fun watching him go up by himself and push the other team back to the back line. Whitewater Winter Basher Preview
The Whitewater Winter Basher- December 4, 2016
Address: 907 Schwager Dr, Whitewater, Wisconsin 53190
Well, folks this marks the last NCDA event of the 2016 calendar year and it should be a good one. The Whitewater Winter Basher (hopefully there will be a lot of head bashing in these games) will involve three teams and all have met before at Platteville’s 6 vs 6 tournament back in October. The teams are Whitewater, Platteville, and DePaul. This time around though Whitewater will be experiencing their first 15 vs 15 matches and they are looking forward to it. The games will be played at the Williams Center on the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena courts. Whitewater’s induction match into the NCDA League will be against DePaul, who has participated in 5 total Induction Matches across their history. For this tournament, the Warhawks, Platteville, and DePaul will have 15 players. Our head officiating referees for Sunday will be alumni Brandon Chappell, former president of UWP Dodgeball Club and alumni Zigmas Maloni of DePaul, Director of Officiating for the NCDA. Let’s take a look at the match-ups. Continue reading “Whitewater Winter Basher Preview”
