Alumni Appreciation- UWP

Alumni Appreciation- Founder of UWP Dodgeball

As you may know, January is alumni appreciation month and I thought it would be fitting to write about how Platteville’s club got started.  Our club started over ten years ago and I’m so happy that it did. I have met a lot of amazing people and made a lot of great friends because of it.  To help tell how the club got started we talked to the founder of the club: Scott Skelly. BOTM: 2016 December

December Baller of the Month- Brian Hymel (DePaul)

It gives me great pleasure to announce Brian Hymel as the December Baller of the Month.  He is an excellent player and one that you should never throw at alone, as many other teams who have played against him know.  Not only is he a great catcher, but he also has strong arm that you have to watch out for.  He is definitely a top 10 player in the league and this semester many teams will see why.  Check out the conversation below that I had with Brian.   Continue reading “BOTM: 2016 December”

UWP- Matt Bautch

An End of an Era for one of the Greats at UWP

Matt Bautch- #8

This semester, Matt Bautch, a great player and one of my best friends, graduated.  He did a lot for our team, which deserves recognition.  For the last 4 and a half years he has been one of Platteville’s best players, and most of the teams who have played against him can agree. Matt was always a very quiet individual and didn’t talk much. In our first few weeks of practice as freshmen everyone called him blue because no one knew his name (He always wore the color blue to practice, hence the nickname Blue).  I can remember walking back to the dorms at midnight after practice while I talked and he just listened.  He wasn’t much for words, but then again, he didn’t have to be, he let his play on the court do his talking.  Matt had one of the strongest arms in the league and could catch about anything thrown his way.  It was always fun watching him go up by himself and push the other team back to the back line. The Whitewater Winter Basher- December 4, 2016

Address: 907 Schwager Dr, Whitewater, Wisconsin 53190

Well, folks this marks the last NCDA event of the 2016 calendar year and it should be a good one.  The Whitewater Winter Basher (hopefully there will be a lot of head bashing in these games) will involve three teams and all have met before at Platteville’s 6 vs 6 tournament back in October. The teams are Whitewater, Platteville, and DePaul.  This time around though Whitewater will be experiencing their first 15 vs 15 matches and they are looking forward to it.  The games will be played at the Williams Center on the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena courts. Whitewater’s induction match into the NCDA League will be against DePaul, who has participated in 5 total Induction Matches across their history. For this tournament, the Warhawks, Platteville, and DePaul will have 15 players. Our head officiating referees for Sunday will be alumni Brandon Chappell, former president of UWP Dodgeball Club and alumni Zigmas Maloni of DePaul, Director of Officiating for the NCDA.   Let’s take a look at the match-ups.      Continue reading “Whitewater Winter Basher Preview”

Cornhusker Clash

Cornhusker Clash (841 N 14th St, Lincoln, NE 68508)

This week kicks off the first tournament of the year for teams of Nebraska, DePaul, and Platteville. The Cornhusker Clash should be a blast and should provide some quality games for the teams participating. The last time that Nebraska held a tournament was two years ago and Platteville and DePaul attended. These teams all have experience which makes this a much different tournament than two years ago.

Let’s take a look at the teams at the Cornhusker Clash.  Continue reading “Cornhusker Clash”
