Nationals 2018 Host Bids

Following the NCDA’s voting policy, the vote will be preferential. Teams will submit their ballot by ranking each school in order of their preference and email this ballot to the League. The most preferred school will host Nationals 2018. For Nationals 2018, there are five schools placing a bid to host:
Akron, NIU, VCU, JMU, PSU.

Voting will run from May 1st to May 6th, or will end early if each Member Team casts a ballot by email to ncdadodgeball@gmail.com

Example Ballot

1. Delta
2. Oakland
3. Marshall
4. K-State
5. UofL

Member Player Representation

Member Teams are left to their own devices to determine their preferences. However, some teams in the past like to run their own mini-preferential election within the team. Some may have each officer submit a preferential ballot. Some have their entire club membership vote. Let me me know if you would like this. I can count those in our voting program and deliver your team’s preferential ballot through that process.

* Candidates are presented in a randomized order.

2017 Club Executive of the Year: Erik Zander (UWP)

The National Collegiate Dodgeball Association’s 2017 Executive of the Year is awarded to Erik Zander from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Since its inception in 2015, this award is meant to showcase the outstanding officership of an individual over the course of the season. As administrators, we interact with Member Team representatives and follow their work with a different kind of attention. These individuals have made our lives easier, in addition to making exceptional improvements with their respective teams.

2015 – William Deutsch [PSU]
2016 – Caleb Arnold [Ohio]
2017 – Erik Zander [UWP]

This honor is bestowed upon Erik after a vote of the entire NCDA Executive Board, and we presented it at the 2017 Captains’ Meeting. Erik was nominated last year for the 2016 Exec of the Year Award which went to Caleb Arnold [Ohio]. There were a lot of great choices this year, and additional nominations for 2017 went to: Hunter Ford (VCU), Kyle Shaw (Miami), Zachary Parise (UK), Nick Johnson (WKU), Kyle Dattelbaum (UNG), Adam Pfeifer (Akron), Logan Rohloff (GVSU).

Nationals 2017 Officiating Schedule

Announcements:

  1. Every official must have a whistle.
  2. Read the Rulebook. Understand the Officiating Manual. Be good people.
  3. Please dress the part. Gray or black is a nice neutral color that most teams don’t wear.
  4. Head Referees, Assistant Referees, and also Shot Clock Timekeepers have the power to call the game. If you see a person is clearly out, and another Official didn’t call it, don’t be afraid to call them out.
  5. The 2017 Aleks Bomis Alumni/Staff Game will be first thing Sunday.
  6. For all of Saturday, matches will be 40 minutes. 20 minute halves.

Schedule below for Saturday. Sunday heavily depends on the results of Saturday. Continue reading “Nationals 2017 Officiating Schedule”

Gonzalez Exchanges for Nationals 2017

Here we have a very long table for Day 1 of Nationals 2017. We will be playing 35 matches on Saturday. For many long reasons, the following table includes the pre-Nationals ratings for each exchange. The ratings are not updated round to round like they would be in reality.

For example, NSULA’s pre-rating is 40.640 and is for each of their matches. In reality their first match vs OSU will naturally raise or lower their rating, which in turn will affect the exchange against their second opponent, DePaul.

I guess to summarize, the purpose of this is to show you a close, potential weight each match has on each team’s rating. Exchanges are doubled for Nationals, so an even match will have an Exchange around 2. Most matches will fall within 0-2, while upset exchanges will be 2-4.  Continue reading “Gonzalez Exchanges for Nationals 2017”

Policy Proposal – Min Games Required for Nationals Participation

Policy Proposal (defined by NCDA Policy, but not Constitutionally defined)

I propose a minimum of 3 games to be eligible to participate at Nationals.

I’ve debated proposing this but I have considered it seriously over the past four years. In one point, I wanted to wait until we were geographically ready to implement something like this. And on the other, I didn’t want to prevent teams from joining at any point in the season. We’ve had a few teams who’s induction matches have happened at a Nationals (8-9 of our 46 schools). Now, the NCDA is becoming so large and active that a team that hasn’t played much that season is a hindrance to scheduling fairly for Nationals.  Continue reading “Policy Proposal – Min Games Required for Nationals Participation”

Rule Proposal – Team Catching

Rule Proposal by Jeff Starr

Slight modification of the team catch rule.

I think this is best explained with an example. Right now lets say its me on team 1 and Colin and Wes on team 2. There are a couple of scenarios where a team catch can be made. I hit Wes, Colin catches it clean. I throw at Wes, he blocks into himself, ball bounces off, Colin catches it. It should be noted that once my ball has hit Wes that it can hit any number of possessed balls and/or live players and still be eligible for a team catch. The wording used in the rule book is that a team catch can be made whenever a player is at risk of being out. Here’s where my proposal comes in. If Wes and Colin are grouped together and one of them blocks the ball, the ball hits Wes, and is caught (by either), it becomes the refs decision whether the ball hit Colin or Wes’ ball to determine if it was a team catch or a dead ball. I propose that any ball that has hit a teammate or a teammate’s ball is eligible for a team catch. I believe this would be easier to ref. Sorry if this was confusing, I wasn’t sure how to go about this proposal.

Standings as of 2017-03-28

As no events are scheduled for the remainder of the eligible season, this will be the last Standings posted going into Nationals! We’ve had an incredible 245 recorded entry 2017 Season, with 229 ranked matches in 39 events. When I started recording complete records for the 2011 season, we had only 116 ranked matches in 26 regular season events. In seven years, that’s a 97% increase.  Continue reading “Standings as of 2017-03-28”
