Kent State was the top team in the "Ohio Region".

Teams:

Kent State

Ohio State

Bowling Green

Miami (Ohio)

2013-14 was not the most successful season for the Ohio Region.  3 of the 4 teams made a first round exit at Nationals, while the other team (Kent State) failed to reach the Final Four.  While the overall product for this group of teams was not the most impressive, there were still many highlights throughout the year.  Miami’s Redhawk Invite turned out to be the best regular season tournament of the year.  The senior laden Kent State team made a lot of noise this year with some big victories.  Lastly, Ohio State hosted Nationals which is always an accomplishment worth mentioning.

Best Team:

Kent State ripped off 23 total wins this season, while only losing 7.  Though they did not reach the Final Four for a 3rd straight season, it was still a good year for the Golden Flashes.  Kent will lose many of their key contributors next year, so it will be interesting to see how they rebuild in 2014-15.

Most Improved Team:

Miami (Oh)

Miami did not turn into a powerhouse team this year, but it is worth noting that they were a much better team overall than in the past.  The Redhawks had a few strong performances this season, and I expect them to build off that momentum and make 2014-15 even better.

MVP for the Ohio Region: Kent State's Camden Fullmer.

Most Valuable Player:

Camden Fullmer (Kent)

In my opinion Camden was the best individual player in college dodgeball this season.  Combining his powerful throw and instinctive catching makes him a very dangerous player.  He was recognized as a 1st Team All-NCDA performer for the third consecutive season.  Camden Fullmer was an extremely important part of Kent State’s team, and will be very missed on the court next year.

Team to Watch Next Season:

Ohio State

Josh Conner will be the new captain for OSU starting next fall.

The Buckeye’s didn’t finish the season the way they intended, going out in the first round thanks to an inspired performance by their opponent: Western Kentucky.  While it was not a successful Nationals for OSU, I think that next year will be much different.  The Buckeyes roster consisted of mostly freshmen and sophomores in 2013-14.  That bodes well for the future of their program.  I expect a lot from this team next year, with the type of athletes that they have.  Give this group of players another year of experience, and I predict they might even become the top team in the Ohio region a year from now.
