Save The Children Fundraiser Registration Information

In case you missed the announcement at the end of August 2017, the NCDA has partnered with Save The Children. Save The Children is a global, non-governmental, non-profit organization that does whatever it takes to ensure that all children survive, learn, and are protected in the United States and around the world. This organization has been around and saving children since 1919; the NCDA is very proud to be an official partner of this organization.

Here’s what this means for you as a team captain:

October Fundraising

The NCDA is requesting that all tournaments, matches, and events held in October act as fundraisers for Save The Children.

Compete to raise the most

The team that raises the most money for Save The Children during the month of October will receive a prize package from Save The Children and will be immortalized on the NCDA’s website in the to-be-created Philanthropy Hall of Fame.

The Save The Children prize package includes:

  • A Championship Trophy
  • ‘Dodgeball Throwdown’ shirts for each player
  • Save The Children head sweatbands for each player
  • Save The Children retro tube socks for each player
  • Save The Children eye black stickers for each player

    How it works

Fundraising will be done on the Save The Children website where each team is to create their own fundraising page, and share it with all their fans, friends, and family. Fundraising progress will be tracked LIVE on their website, so we’ll be able to see which team is doing the best.

I want this to be fun and encouraging for each team. Even if your team isn’t able to raise a lot of money, just know that the money you do raise is going toward a GREAT cause.

I want teams to call each other out for their fundraising skills. If CMU is raising more money than GVSU, I want to see some trash talk on Twitter!

“Not only are you unable to beat us on the court, we’re kicking your butt in fundraising too!”

Keep it PG though. This is a fundraiser for a very well-known and respected organization.

Create your Fundraising Page

Team Captains will need to create their team’s fundraising page on the Save The Children website by following these instructions:

  1. Browse to savethechildren.org/dodgeball-ncda
  2. Click the big, red Get Started button , or the Start Fundraising button at the top of the page
  3. Agree to the waiver/agreement
  4. Select the option for Start a Team
  5. Enter in your:
    • Team name
    • Fundraising goal (let’s estimate around $50-$100 per player)
    • Recruiting goal (number of players in your club)
    • Check the next box so friends, family, and alumni can all help you raise money for your team.
    • Follow the directions to create the Team

After completing this, it will take you to My HQ where you can monitor your team’s progress. My Webpage > View Team Page > Edit … Page  will allow you to edit your team/personal page.

Your View Team Page will be the page you’ll want to share with all your friends, family, and fans to donate to your team.

You can select the View Personal Page sub-tab and share that. For example, if Hunter Ford’s uncle donates $20 to Hunter’s personal page, it will show up as a $20 donation to VCU since he is a member of that team and is registered on that team through the Save The Children website.

Fundraising for participants

After your team page is created, tell your team members and fans to follow these instructions to join your Save The Children fundraising page:

  • Browse to savethechildren.org/dodgeball-ncda
  • Click the big, red ‘Get Started’ button , or the ‘Start Fundraising’ button at the top of the page
  • Agree to the waiver/agreement
  • Select the option for ‘Join a Team’
  • Select the team you’d like to join from the dropdown menu.
  • Follow the directions to create a login

This will take you to ‘My HQ’ where you can monitor your team’s progress. After you’ve clicked on ‘View Team Page’ this is the page you’ll want to share with all your friends, family, and fans to donate to your team.

Any money raised by your personal page will be then filtered to your team page. For example, if Hunter Ford’s uncle donates $20 to Hunter’s personal page, it will show up as a $20 donation to VCU since he is a member of that team and is registered on that team through the Save The Children website.
