Clarifying my Own Brash Opinions
Most of you who will read this article have probably already listened to the most recent Average Joe’s Podcast. For those of you who haven’t, I’m sure you’ve already heard about most, if not all of the inflammatory comments I made during said podcast. Before I go any further, this is not an apology for what I said, this is me realizing I could have used a better set of words and tones to get my point across. If you are still upset with my comments after this I won’t argue with that, but I made the realization that even I didn’t mean for things to come across the way that they did. 2014 NCDA Rulebook
Good people! Your administrative interns have completed work on the NCDA Rulebook for the 2014 Season. Here it is!
Captains & Officers of the Member Teams: If you find anything, any problems, any mistakes, any issues, any contradictions please email them to the League email and they will be addressed! If there are no issues, the Rulebook will become valid on 11 October 2013.
A little history: The foundations of our college dodgeball ruleset goes back to 2005. In 2010/11, I recodified the 2011 Rulebook into a more logical arrangement. Some of the things that were rewritten included the ambiguous language: “Ball hits Player B then hits Player A or Player A’s teammate. Player B is out.” It was replaced with more recognizable language like Targets and Throwers. Anyway, three seasons have passed and the Rulebook has been put through some great tests over that time. Three years was a good amount of time to take another fresh look at the Rules and see if we could further refine the language and any ambiguities that might have popped up.
Adding Felix Perrone [WKU] and Dylan Fettig [GVSU] as editors, here’s a list of the many changes we undertook. Most of the edits are grammatical and changing ambiguous language to specific language.

Ultimate Dodgeball Championships: GVSU Places 3rd
The Grand Valley State University dodgeball team is not used to being underdogs. This weekend for the Ultimate Dodgeball Championships in Las Vegas they were. The Lakers needed to win the Facebook vote contest to capture the 8th seed going into the tournament. When I asked about what the other teams expected from them. Senior Kenny Bacchus (#32) “We were definitely the underdogs of the tournament, because of just getting in by the Facebook vote. Even when we got there, we found out that we were the youngest team there, so we knew that we had a lot to prove to all the other teams.” Continue reading “Ultimate Dodgeball Championships: GVSU Places 3rd”

Alright everyone if you are reading this let me say welcome to my first attempt at blogging a live event. I am here to get the scores of the matches to you as quickly as possibly, while helping ref, do shot clock, and other things. The NCDA at the NDL’s World Dodgeball Championship: Part 2

In the second part of our coverage of the NDL’s World Dodgeball Championship from last month, I sat down with former CMU dodgeballer and NCDA alum Mike McCarthy. Mike was one of the six dodgeballers that comprised an all-star team of current and formers players. He recounted his experience from that weekend and explained what it was like to play NDL dodgeball. Continue reading “The NCDA at the NDL’s World Dodgeball Championship: Part 2”
Kent State Tournament Preview & Prediction *UPDATED*
Dodgeball is back this weekend people! Kent State, last year’s #1 seed at Nationals, is hosting the first tournament of the year, hoping to get off to a fast start. They’ve got plenty of stiff competition coming to town with the 2013 runner-up Michigan State, 2012 National Champion Saginaw Valley State, 2011 National Champion Central Michigan, and powerhouse Kentucky coming to town. For those wondering who to pick to win this tournament, I’ll be listing plenty of reasons for you to pick any of the teams above. I’ll even tell you my personal prediction. 2013-14 Season Preview: Ohio State
Last year was a bit of a surprise year for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The team was very young, and very inexperienced in NCDA play. Seemingly out of nowhere, the Buckeyes showed up to Sunday at nationals and gave host Kentucky the game of their lives in the second round. I recently talked with head boss man Ryan Carlton to ask him about his team, his expectations, and his dancing abilities. Continue reading “2013-14 Season Preview: Ohio State”
2013-2014 Season Preview: Saginaw Valley State University
Many people know him as the former head captain of Saginaw Valley. If you frequent the forums, you know him as one of the NCDA’s Gods. Those close to him simply just call him Spencer. His playing days may be over at this point, but Spencer Jardine’s role with SVSU is vastly undiminished. We sat down to discuss the past and future of SVSU Dodgeball and the league as a whole. He also reassured me that there are no hard feelings about DePaul’s default win over SVSU at Nationals 2013. Trust me, if you didn’t know about this man’s passion for his team and the sport before….you will. Continue reading “2013-2014 Season Preview: Saginaw Valley State University”
2013-2014 Season Preview: Michigan State University
Few teams around the league can say that they are as excited to kickoff the 2013 season as Michigan State. They ended last season at Nationals’ as the runner-up to 5x NCDA Champion Grand Valley State University. While last season was widely considered to be their most successful season, captain Mike Van Ermen put everyone on notice that second place just isn’t good enough anymore. From here on out, it’s “championship or bust.” Continue reading “2013-2014 Season Preview: Michigan State University”
AJP: Sept 2013 Alumni Podcast
