Cornhusker Clash VIII Preview

In the wake of NDA Nationals, the Central Region looks forward to Nebraska’s home tournament, the Cornhusker Clash! In this tournament, University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL) and University of Wisconsin Platteville (UWP) will go head-to-head in a double-header in the eighth iteration of the tournament. The rivalry between the two schools has always been intense, and UNL has always come out on top at the Clash. Will the pattern repeat this year? Let’s take a look at what each team is bringing to the table this weekend!

UNL

This is the first tournament UNL will be participating in for the season, and it’s truly their time to shine on their home courts. The previous season was spent rebuilding after a few big players graduated and they weren’t able to travel as much as they’d hoped. This year, they have between five and seven rookies which will be newly exposed to what a tournament is like. Fortunately, UWP is a competent team to play and learn the game from. To be successful this weekend, UNL needs to rely on their teamwork and intensity; they need to keep their opponent moving and on the defensive so they have more opportunities to utilize their strategy.

UWP

Platteville has one tournament under their belt so far, and it was an extremely valuable experience for their rookies. It opened the doors to what tournaments are like and what is expected from them. With some of their vets coming back from NDA Nationals the weekend prior, they are sure to be implementing anything learned from playing such experienced players into their own game play to help further improve their chances of doing well at the Clash. For UWP to be successful this weekend, their vets need to step up their communication while on the court while sticking to their roles. This means relying on their teammates and trusting them to do as they have been taught.

Make sure to tune in to watch the games live. They will be streamed on the UW-Platteville Dodgeball YouTube channel. First game is at 9:30a.m. central time followed by 12:00 p.m. central time. Be sure to subscribe to get notifications when they go live!
