Championship Match: CMU vs GVSU [2-1 CMU]

16 June 2011

From Sam Hiller [MSU #87]

Here's the setup: a rematch of the 2010 National Championship game, a battle of the last two Michigan Dodgeball Cup champions, and the clear two best teams in the country for the past two seasons. Central Michigan, led by captains Pat Fisher and Eric Sweet boast a team that had lost only one time all season, but that loss was to Grand Valley State. The Lakers, with head captain Jimmy Stokes at the helm, had three losses on the season, but had also won the Michigan Dodgeball Cup, the second most competitive tournament of the NCDA.

To get to the championship match, both sides had a tough road. Grand Valley and Central both had tough matches with Ohio State, and both teams had tough semifinal matches. Grand Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Michigan State, but had to hold on to win 2-1. Meanwhile, Central Michigan fought off a very good Saginaw Valley team to win 2-1 as well. And as you will see, their battles were just beginning...
