The following was written by Maisie Montemurno. UW-Platteville hosted\u00a0the sixth\u00a0Pioneer Classic\u00a0tournament\u00a0on November 8th<\/sup>. The Pioneers competed\u00a0against the following teams;\u00a0University of\u00a0Wisconsin-Stout, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire (UWEC), University\u00a0of Illinois\u00a0Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL),\u00a0and some alumni.\u00a0\u00a0The Pioneers would go into this tournament with an A\u00a0Team\u00a0consisting\u00a0of all\u00a0veterans, and a\u00a0B\u00a0team\u00a0consisting of nine\u00a0rookies\u00a0and being led by veteran #7 Alison Draxler\u00a0and #47 Dalton\u00a0Foreyt.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UWP A vs UNL (3-1)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Pioneers had just competed against UNL one month ago and were ready to play once more. The first point started off with no one getting ball control, then #69 Ethan Schmeling got things started with the first out of the day! Both teams would continue battling back and forth. UWP would take second point, and UNL would then take the last two.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UWEC\/Alumni vs UWP B (5-1)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year, UW-Platteville recruited enough\u00a0rookies\u00a0to create a B-team going into the tournament.\u00a0Being led by veteran #7 Alison Draxler and #47 Dalton\u00a0Foreyt, this would be the B-team’s\u00a0first tournament\u00a0competing.\u00a0The pioneers would face UW-Eau Claire\u00a0and Alumni in their first match of the tournament.\u00a0The point\u00a0started\u00a0slow,\u00a0but\u00a0UWP would get ball control soon\u00a0after. However, UW-Eau Claire\/alumni would find\u00a0their footing and\u00a0win the point.\u00a0UW-Eau Claire\/alumni\u00a0would\u00a0later go on to win four more points. UWP would win one\u00a0point\u00a0this\u00a0match;\u00a0the Pioneers would gain much valuable experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UIUC vs UWP A (3-2)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0match of the\u00a0day, the Pioneers faced\u00a0the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.\u00a0The match would start with UIUC getting ball control.\u00a0The Pioneers would continue to\u00a0hold their ground but\u00a0would fall\u00a0to UIUC. The second point would start off strong for the Pioneers, who got game control\u00a0early on. UWP would continue to shine and\u00a0would lead them to winning the\u00a0point.\u00a0Going into\u00a0the second\u00a0half, both teams were hungry to win the next point. UIUC would prevail and win the next two points.\u00a0#10 Jalen Sims and #18 Eric Sullivan ended\u00a0this match with double digits outs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mixed\/Alumni vs UWP A (3-2)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Pioneers\u00a0would\u00a0play their final match of the day against the Alumni\u00a0and UW-Eau Claire. The Alumni were a\u00a0mixed team of\u00a0well-experienced\u00a0veterans.\u00a0Six out of the\u00a013\u00a0players were formerly on the\u00a0UW-Platteville\u00a0team. The A team came into this game with one goal in mind: winning this game.\u00a0The first point\u00a0would go back and\u00a0forth,\u00a0but it would be UWP who would take the first point. The Mixed\/Alumni would come back and claim the second point.\u00a0As halftime was approaching and both teams were tied, UWP would take\u00a0the third point and\u00a0taking\u00a0the lead. As\u00a0the second\u00a0half started both teams\u00a0kept\u00a0the pressure on each other.\u00a0However, the Mixed\/Alumni team would\u00a0take the next two\u00a0points\u00a0and\u00a0to win\u00a0the match.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UW-Stout vs UWP B (3-1)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

UWP B-team in their second\u00a0game\u00a0faced UW-Stout. Being led by #47 Dalton\u00a0Foreyt\u00a0and #7 Alison\u00a0Draxler,\u00a0the team went in\u00a0very\u00a0confident\u00a0as they just\u00a0faced\u00a0the Mixed\/Alumni Team.\u00a0They had excellent communication and\u00a0teamwork\u00a0and were able to win the first three points. However,\u00a0UW-Stout was able to secure one point.\u00a0This match consisted of\u00a0very long\u00a0points, and each side played more aggressively and pressured one another.\u00a0Rookie\u00a0#51 Shaun De Vries and Co-Captain\u00a0#47 Dalton Foreyt ended this match leading the\u00a0team with seven out\u00a0apiece.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UWP A Women’s vs UIUC Women’s (4-1)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The UWP Women’s A Team\u00a0consisted of four veterans;\u00a0#20 Captain Hollie Wheeler, #14 Reagan Bucholtz, #15 Tori Sanborn,\u00a0#7\u00a0Alison Draxler. UIUC Women’s team\u00a0included #31\u00a0Tera\u00a0Pabico, #28 Christina\u00a0Nasios, #13 Jia Kim, and #95 Naila Kudla.\u00a0UWP would play strong throughout the whole match, winning four points in a row.\u00a0UIUC\u00a0would\u00a0be able to score one point\u00a0towards the end.\u00a0#20 Captain Hollie Wheeler\u00a0would\u00a0finish the match with a total of 10 outs and\u00a047 throws.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UWP B Women’s vs Women\u2019s Mixed (0-8)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

UWP Women\u2019s B teams\u00a0consist\u00a0of all\u00a0rookies; #34 Chloe\u00a0Kaderabek, #4 Jamie Damm #17 Anna Behnke, #13 Maisie Montemurno, and #77 Auria Mills.\u00a0The Mixed teams would consist\u00a0of UNL\u2019s #45 Rachel Tysdal and #40 Abigail Nelson, #41 Aleah Lazure, and UWEC\u2019s #7 Cleo Moen.\u00a0The game was to get the\u00a0rookies\u00a0more experience playing in no-sting matches but also to learn how to work with\u00a0one another.\u00a0Each\u00a0rookie\u00a0took turns\u00a0play-calling. This was\u00a0a great opportunity\u00a0for our\u00a0rookies\u00a0to grow.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
