<\/p>\nIt’s that time of the month again… not what you’re thinking silly, it’s Baller of the Month time! UWP Dodgeball is proud to choose Caleb Newell as October’s Baller of the Month. Caleb, otherwise known as Noochie, is pursuing Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, and a Spanish Minor. Like last month’s baller, Caleb is a new UWP Dodgeball recruit, but is showing quick understanding of the sport and its mechanics; this is largely in part due to his 10+ years baseball experience. See below for some of Caleb’s thought on the team and his personal life.<\/p>\n

How does it feel being awarded Baller of the Month? Don\u2019t hold back.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s\u00a0truly an\u00a0honor. I\u2019m happy that the team has chosen me as the\u00a0Baller of the\u00a0month. With that being said, I do feel that its justified. I\u2019ve come into the club with 10+ serious years of baseball experience\u00a0which has allowed me to\u00a0establish\u00a0myself as one of the\u00a0best\u00a0throwers on our team. This ability has allowed\u00a0me\u00a0to help our\u00a0rookies that may not have that edge to their game yet.\u00a0The part I attribute\u00a0my\u00a0success to the most is my sports IQ, whether that be timing, awareness, agility, etc. Sports were a big part of my life prior to college, I\u2019m just glad I can \u2018dust off the cobwebs\u2019 so to speak and compete.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Who are your favorite teammates in the club?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n I have a handful<\/span>. I\u2019ll start with the \u2018vets\u2019 they follow as such: JT, Chad, Jared<\/span>, Eli, and Seth<\/span>. They have been very welcoming and helped me a ton when it came to getting me up to speed. My favorite rookies would have to be\u00a0<\/span>Muddy (Joe), Alex, Jack, Jalen, and Nicholas S. They\u2019ve shown up with so much enthusiasm at every practice and it really helps all the rookies feel comfortable.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n What makes you get up every morning?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Well\u2026. besides my old bell style alarm clock, my wonderful girlfriend, and my crippling caffeine addiction. The thin<\/span>g\u00a0<\/span>that make<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0me wake up every morning\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>my drive to be\u00a0<\/span>successful.<\/span>\u00a0I have so many goals in life\u00a0<\/span>and failure isn\u2019t an option. It never has been. College is just another notch on the belt.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Where is your favorite place to go in Platteville?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n My favorite place\u00a0<\/span>to go in Platteville is down by the Rountree Branch. I\u00a0<\/span>like to go<\/span>\u00a0there because the sound of the running water is\u00a0<\/span>relaxing and<\/span>\u00a0is great for de-stressing and grounding\u00a0<\/span>myself. This is\u00a0<\/span>especially<\/span>\u00a0true<\/span>\u00a0after a couple rough weeks in school. For fun I usually always tell people\u00a0<\/span>to go to the\u00a0<\/span>\u2018M\u2019 mound.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Why did you join the club?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n I joined the club because I\u2019ve been itching for competition. I\u2019m a very competitive person and I cannot stand losing in any aspect of life. Playing in intramurals was fun for a little bit but it got increasingly hard to count on people to show up or they if they did, they just wanted to play\u00a0<\/span>for fun. I can have fun, but I still want to win. However, the true catalyst to me joining was JT. JT and I met through\u00a0<\/span>work,<\/span>\u00a0and he mentioned that he was the president\u00a0<\/span>of the club. He told me about a memorial tournament they were having in the summer, and that I should come give it a try. The rest is history.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Would you like to give thanks to anybody, whether it be a role model or someone that\u2019s always been there for you?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n I would like to thank those close to me, family first. Mom, Dad, Riley, your unwavering support\u00a0is\u00a0why I\u2019ve made it to where I am today. You\u00a0guys have always pushed me to be the best I can.\u00a0Some examples\u00a0include but are not limited\u00a0to:\u00a0our countless car rides to tournaments far and wide, the sleepless nights you guys have pulled to provide for Riley and I, giving up your twenties to show me what being a family is all about, and lastly supporting me through by educational endeavors. I cannot wait to until the day where I can\u00a0support you.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n To my close friends, you know who you are.\u00a0Thank you, many of you have seen me go through a rollercoaster of emotions over the past year and a half. I\u2019m beyond grateful that I could have a group of friends that allowed me to express myself during my times of need. I cannot thank you enough.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Is there anything else you wish to share?<\/strong><\/p>\n I would just like to thank to the dodgeball team. It has been great to be able to feel that comradery of a team again. I never realized how much I missed it. Although I\u2019m sad that it has taken me until now to find and join the club, you better believe that I am going to give you my all until the final whistle blows.
