Job Titles in the NCDA

My day job beyond the NCDA involves being a designer for a human resources application. They specialize in job titles, and I also have a giant list of things to do for the NCDA. The following is a rough list of all the job positions of the League. This isn’t so much of declaration that we need additions to our small staff. (I don’t think that’s a big secret.) I do however think it’s useful to see the wide range of Jobs the current administrative backbone of the NCDA fulfills. We all wear many hats, and there’s always room for more help.

Normally I’d make this a static page. But I wasn’t feeling like being too rigorous about this, and this is mostly for the perusal of the unwashed masses. Continue reading “Job Titles in the NCDA”

Dodgeball Outside of the NCDA: Elite Dodgeball

logo

This past weekend I traveled to Rochester, New York to play in Elite Dodgeball’s Throwdown tournament.  16 teams from all over the United States invaded the campus of Rochester Institution of Technology to see who could claim bragging rights for their team, and for their region.  At the end of the day the winner of both the non-pinch and the pinch division, was DOOM a team from Los Angeles, California.

Predicting the 2014 MDC

Written by Grand Valley’s Kevin Bailey.

The Michigan Dodgeball Cup (MDC) has consistently been one of the premier tournaments in the NCDA’s regular season.  That won’t change this year with five of the six participating teams ranked in the top 12 of the current national standings.  The winner of this event, hosted by Michigan State University, is generally looked at as the favorite to win the national title a few months later.  Here are my predictions for how this important tournament will transpire: Continue reading “Predicting the 2014 MDC”

State of the Association: Jan 2014

Hello Good People!

The National Collegiate Dodgeball Association is busy. Let’s just start with that. We had a smash opening Autumn to the 2014 Season, with 90 matches played and 17 events hosted. We saw the Inducting Matches of three teams: St Ambrose of Iowa, Davenport U and Siena Heights of Michigan.

With the efforts of Interim Treasurer Felix Perrone [WKU], we’ve even registered as a non-profit in the State of Kentucky, bringing us on a road to official IRS tax exempt status. On the administrative side we are writing the Constitution, Bylaws, Policy needed to maintain a national organization.  Continue reading “State of the Association: Jan 2014”

Spring Semester Regional Preview & Predictions: Ohio

(Picture coming at some point)

The Ohio conference is the most curious conference the league has this year in my eyes. Coming into the season, a lot was expected of the top two teams, Kent and Ohio State, but not much was expected from the other two schools, Bowling Green and Miami. Though this seems like a top heavy region, BG and Miami do have talent, but not enough to compete with Kent and OSU. Sticking with my theme of of comparing our regions to current NCAA football conferences, I’m stuck between the Big Ten and the Pac-12; for geographical purposes I’ll choose the Big Ten. Here’s my shakedown on how I think the second half of the season will go for these four teams. Continue reading “Spring Semester Regional Preview & Predictions: Ohio”

BOTM: 2014 January

Andy Lieblich [MSU-20]

Andy is a student at Michigan State, a longtime member of MSU Dodgeball, and for the past few months he’s been a regular staff member of the NCDA. Starting his work with a short Python script for one of his class projects, Andy has since expanded his talents. He’s part of the development team working on the Ratings Percentage Index application for the League. One of the formulas we use in the RPI, similar to the NCAA Basketball formula, carries his namesake.  Continue reading “BOTM: 2014 January”

The 2014 Chicago Dodgeball Open

We all know what time of the year it is. It’s time to go back to school and get back in the books. More importantly, it’s time to get rid of that Holiday season fat and get ready for the second half of the season. There’s still three months of quality dodgeball to be played before everyone heads to Ohio State for Nationals. A week in to the semester and we already have one of the league’s classic tournaments going down this Sunday, the Chicago Dodgeball Open.

Spring Semester Regional Preview & Predictions: Michigan

Cold winters breed the Michigan DodgeballerWith spring semester fast approaching, or having already started for some schools, what better time to start looking ahead to the second half of the 2013-14 season. Starting with what would be considered the SEC of college dodgeball, here’s how I think this semester will break down. Continue reading “Spring Semester Regional Preview & Predictions: Michigan”

Maryland & Towson: More Than a Rivalry

Coming from the East Coast Conference, the youngest section of the NCDA, a lot of other school’s don’t know much about Towson or the University of Maryland dodgeball clubs, because a lot of people don’t come from our area. There may be a few players at schools like JMU (Chris Hess and PJ Kinkead for example) who hail from the Old Line State, but the majority of us end up staying in state. What makes our rivalry in dodgeball so special is the proximity we live to one another. Before I get into the dodgeball aspect though, I’ll talk about what makes us different from everyone else.

BOTM: 2013 November

Matt Gonzalez [UNL-46]

Matt of Nebraska-Lincoln Dodgeball is one great guy with a positive attitude, and known for a mighty beard. Some say the pure black of the full beard, when coupled with the Nebraska red, combines to create a sight to intimidate even the most seasoned opponent. His performance on the court, hospitality, and awesome demeanor led his fellow Nebraska Invite captains to nominate him for 2013 November Baller of the Month. I sat down to interview him over the internets.
